Foundational Matrix Verification — Batch 2 Report

Book-anchor note: The Victor C. Li 2019 book is the Atlas's primary anchor. This foundational-paper matrix is the supporting / verification layer that verifies and deepens the book-anchored Atlas claims.

Scope: (A) close the remaining needs_page_verification row in the foundational claim-evidence matrix, and (B) perform external DOI / bibliographic verification for the six target foundational papers.

A. Matrix — remaining row resolution

Row 4 (paper_id li_leung_1992, atlas_node fiber_bridging_law): - Claim: Crack opening at peak bridging stress delta_cu = tau L_f^2 / (E_f d_f) - Previous status: needs_page_verification - New status: verified_from_full_text

Evidence: - Local OCR-extracted markdown at 00_sources/foundational_papers/extracted_text/li-1992-steady-state-flat-crack-propagation.md, line 34, contains the peak-opening expression in a garbled but unambiguous form: "0o = (4l^2 tau)/[(1 + n) Ef df] corresponds to the crack opening at which P(delta) = ..." This is the per-fiber peak-pullout opening δ = τ Lf² / [(1 + η) Ef df], which reduces to the atlas claim δ_cu = τ Lf² / (Ef df) in the limit η → 0 that the paper adopts (line 39: "peaks of the σ_b–δ curves occur at just less than δ"). The same expression is repeated in Appendix I (extracted lines 265, 269-273: V(1 + n) Ef df tau, (1 + n) Ef df tau). - The original PDF at 00_sources/foundational_papers/originals/li-1992-steady-state-flat-crack-propagation.pdf has no embedded text layer (all pages return 0 chars via PyMuPDF text extraction), so exact article-page numbers (2247-2249 in the ASCE J. Eng. Mech. print) could not be re-extracted without a fresh OCR pass. The OCR-extracted markdown is the local evidence citation used in the CSV notes column.

Row-level CSV changes (row 4 only): - page_or_sectionBridging Stress–Crack Opening section (Eq. for delta* / delta_cu); Appendix I: P-δ relation - figure_table_equationdelta_cu = tau L_f^2 / [(1+eta) E_f d_f]; simplifies to tau L_f^2/(E_f d_f) as eta→0 - statusverified_from_full_text - notes → cites extracted-text lines 34 and 265/269-273, and records that the original PDF has no text layer.

B. External DOI / bibliographic verification

Method: Crossref REST API (https://api.crossref.org/works) using query.bibliographic + query.author + filter=from-pub-date:<Y>,until-pub-date:<Y>. A Crossref hit was accepted only when title, author list, journal, volume, and issue all agreed with the paper card citation. DOIs were then confirmed by resolving https://doi.org/<DOI> where publisher pages are reachable.

Note on #6: the source-note YAML front matter records doi: 10.14359/10724, but that DOI does not resolve at doi.org (HTTP 404) and is inconsistent with the paper. Crossref returns 10.14359/10851 for the exact title, authors, journal, volume, and issue of the paper card. The paper card was updated to 10.14359/10851 with a note pointing to the supersession; the source note itself was not modified per this pass's constraints. This discrepancy is tracked in the bibliographic ledger for a future source-note correction pass.
