Green ECC explained

Green ECC is ECC that reduces environmental burden while still preserving ECC behavior.
2. Intuitive explanation
Using fly ash, slag, recycled fibers, seawater, LC3, or waste materials can make a composite greener. But if the material loses strain-hardening and crack-width control, it is not Green ECC in the Atlas sense.
3. Technical explanation
In this Atlas, Green ECC requires both sustainability improvement and retained performance: tensile strain-hardening, controlled crack width, durability, and ideally life-cycle benefit. Strategies include high-volume SCMs, alkali-activated slag, geopolymer EGC, recycled PET/selvage fibers, rubberized matrices, seawater sea-sand, and LC3 binders.
4. Why it matters
Green ECC matters because practical infrastructure materials must reduce carbon and cost without sacrificing durability and resilience.

6. Common misunderstanding
Low-carbon ingredient plus brittle behavior is not Green ECC. The ECC performance functions must be checked, especially direct tensile strain-hardening and crack width.
